Getting Started Sessions – Pilates Mat and reformer

All new Pilates Mat Work and Pilates Reformer clients are required to attend a ‘Getting Started’ session.  This One to One or small group session may include a postural analysis and will ensure that you are will gain the maximum benefit from Pilates lessons whether in a group or one to one. Sue will discuss your goals, and make sure that Pilates classes will be safe and appropriate for you. This is especially important if you have any injures or health conditions or have been recommended to start Pilates classes by your health professional.

Pilates Reformer beginners will learn how to change their machine settings safely in preparation for class along with some basic moves to get them started.

Pre and Post Natal Pilates

At Body Nurture we feel that extra special care needs to be taken of you and your baby when practicing Pilates whilst pregnant. For this reason Body Nurture does not invite expectant mums to join our group classes, recommending instead they join a specific pre natal Pilates class with an instructor who specialises in group pre natal instruction.
Alternatively please email to enquire about 1:2:1 pre or post natal sessions with Sue

Pilates classes at Body Nurture are based on the exercise method developed by German born Joseph Pilates in the 1930s

It promotes body awareness and uses a series of exercises focused on spinal/pelvic alignment  and correct breathing techniques to strengthen the core. Pilates can improve:

  • muscle tone and strength
  • flexibility
  • stamina
  • endurance
  • balance
  • coordination
  • ease and fluidity of movement

It is suitable for men and women of all ages and levels of fitness as the pilates classes can be modified to suit individual requirements

Here at Body Nurture Pilates classes feature a blend of both the ‘classical’ method as taught by Joseph and the contemporary Stott Pilates method.

“In ten sessions you’ll feel the difference, in twenty you’ll see the difference and in thirty you’ll have a new body” Joseph Pilates

Body Nurture Pilates Classes

Beginners Pilates

For absolute beginners! Week by week we explore the basics of the Pilates repertoire. The aim is to gradually build your strength, stamina and co-ordination, preparing you to progress to L2

L2 Pilates

Once you have mastered the basics, you will want to progress to a slightly more challenging Pilates class. The L2 class looks at a wider range of the Pilates repertoire and the pace picks up a little

L2/3 Intermediate Pilates/Advanced Pilates

In this class we start to explore some of Joseph’s intermediate repertoire. This class is only suitable for those who have attended Absolute Beginners and L2 Pilates classes

Small Equipment

Soft Balls, Toning Balls, Stability Cushions, Resistance Bands, Pilates Circles, Arc Barrels and Swiss Balls are often used at all levels to enhance workouts – increasing body awareness, aiding correct alignment and offering variation

Pilates Reformer and other large equipment

Body Nurtures’s rehab suite has a V2MAX reformer plus Stability Chairs, Stability Barrel, Ladder Barrel, Cadillac, Spine Corrector and Spine Supporter.  The downstairs studio has 4 SPX MAX reformers.

Reformers enhance Pilates workouts by using the instability of a rolling carriage with the springs set at different levels of resistance to provide all kinds of stability challenges that develop core strength and promote better balance

One to One Pilates Mat Work and Pilates Reformer

If you are recovering from an injury and/or have been recommended to do Pilates classes by a medical professional the group classes may not be suitable for you. Sue is happy to speak directly with your health professional to devise a specific programme of exercise to continue your rehabilitation and help you prevent the injury from recurring in the future with on-going Pilates exercise

One to One or Duo Pilates tuition is also great for those clients who would prefer to exercise privately or perhaps have specific fitness goals or want to see improvements faster than working out within a group setting.  Cost of one to one sessions for both Pilates mat or reformer £42 for 60 minutes.  For duo session pricing please refer to our  Booking/Prices page
